My Self-Summary

First Druid and (now former) Chancellor of the Springtide Clan. My rank seems to be a joke upon my Jack-of-all-Trades nature. If you have a skill you're interested in, it is likely I have dabbled in it, if not mastered it. And if not, I can always learn. Don't let my age deceive you, I'm still a quick study. Interested in playing the game, but in no rush. I've not fallen through worlds before, I plan to enjoy my time before Myddvai calls me back.

Sherwood's Suite is located on the Ace & Jack level floor. He has no door, having removed it entirely. His room is always open to visitors, regardless of his being around or not. The space is mostly a large, single space with all his amenities. The only separated out room is his private bathroom, which he keeps locked.

Of note, he has a wood burning hearth with various, rudimentary cooking supplies. There are multiple, large desks with various scrolls, journals, and books strewn about. Bookshelves and storage cabinets line many of the walls. Painted artwork, tapestries, and drawings are also haphazardly about the space. He has a low, wide, and plush bed cot tucked in a far back corner. It had a curtain which can be pulled around to give some privacy, but he won't be found sleeping in it.

[Honestly... Akechi would probably appreciate the efficiency of it, but be offended by the culinary monstrosity it is. He's a bit of a food snob, at times.]

Hah... maybe you can make money butchering and preparing meat for guests who want food without drugs. Then you wouldn't have to bring anyone to your bed. Because you seemed quite against the idea.

[He smiles. It's not friendly.]

[said with a quiet whisper of intrigue, because Sherwood is not good at gambling, but he sure does like it.

Spending all that time in the Broken Wing tending patients means he did not get much exploration around the hotel. The slot machines about were an oddity to him he hadn't quite grasped for their purpose and he hadn't been through to the casino proper to check out table games he'd actually recognize like dice or cards.]

You've explored enough to slaughter some rabbits, but not see the casino? Tch.

[Akechi crosses his arms and looks away, looking over Sherwood's room more. It's... certainly tailored to him. Are all the royal ranks designed to suit whoever goes to them? Did... the House know he would rise in rank, eventually? Hm.]

If you're good at it, it's not a terrible way to make some extra money. But it's not the most reliable way or the easiest way.

The hotel gives this rank more money than I could need. [Justification, of course, for what will swiftly become a problem for him. Sherwood is chronically broke back home, wealthy in power and favors and influence, but coin-? Oh, coin he's always short on..........]

Aligned as I am to the forces of Order, gambling is a benefit. I'll need to use that to balance out my other habits. Thank you for the knowledge, lad, I'll use that well. [he will not, he will be wasting a lot of money and only sometimes winning a damn thing back]

There's more to this place than just money. And I've heard rumors about what happens to people who don't play the game...

[He lets that implication linger, though, because the next bit of information is a lot to take in. Forces of... huh. So gambling is some kind of chaotic force? That makes sense, he supposes. Sherwood isn't anything like any kind of Order he's familiar with, but who is he to judge?]

Perhaps we should play a round, sometime. I wonder if you're familiar with modern card games? [Akechi wants to trounce him in poker]

Despite my age, I can pick up on any game if taught the rules properly.

[Sherwood speaks as he moves towards the sink nearby his table, washing down his gloves and arms of the blood on them. Not taking the gloves off, but washing with them on. As when they first met, he is so very fussy about not being seen with them off.]

Back home we played mostly with dice or mind games, like Mermaid's Gambit.

[Hm. So he is still on about the gloves thing? Now, Akechi loves his gloves, and gets twitchy without them in public. But in this scenario...]

I don't think I'm familiar with that one. How do you play it?

You swap rolling a pair of dice and each turn you are allowed to add a rule to the game. The goal is to be clever and engaging with your opponent, rather than to simply win as quickly as you can.

[He adds far, far too casually,]

It is rather like having sex.

[That... actually sounds right up Akechi's alley. He'd love playing that. He might even be able to accept losing a game of it. His mind swirls, thinking of how he wants to play with Akira, with Marina, maybe even with Kazuya (if he wouldn't be a spoilsport about it).

But he keeps that excitement close to his chest, simply nodding politely.]

You sound like you have some very interesting ideas about sex. But I can see what you're getting at.

Is that interesting to you? I would say it is an experienced way of thinking about it.

[But Akechi is young, obviously. Sherwood has a decent eye for human age, so he would guess he is probably still a teenager.

So, Sherwood will calculatedly guess higher than he actually believes. He's rather certain that will feed Akechi's ego as appearing more mature than he is,]

[Not really, but Akechi would love to see what conversations pop up from that.

Ah... his age. Interesting. Akechi debates, in a microsecond, how to answer.]

You flatter me. I'll be twenty-one soon. [It's only a couple years off of his real age, but enough to add to it.]

I think those are better conversations held one-to-one. Public discussion has a tendency to be more performative than earnest.

[Sherwood does like to argue for fun, but he'd likely alienate some potential partners. Best to avoid that as much as possible, at this phase of getting acclimated to his new life and social environment,

He does note Akechi's answer, thinking it implausible. He'll need to check in on the young man on the network, to see if Sherwood's hunch on his true age is actually correct. How quick he was to lie if so, that's interesting,]

I fear what you would guess my age is, but have at me. What might you suspect?

[He figures it's a mild lie. How many people lie to make themselves older or younger, especially here? And it's... instinctual, for him. Sometimes he forgets how to be honest.

Ah, that's a riddle. Akechi rubs his chin in though.]

I suspect you age different than I'd suspect... but then again, you were familiar with my age. I'd say, [He debates, flipping between flattering Sherwood and insulting him. He opts for the later,] Late 70s, maybe?

[Sherwood makes such a face. This guy... ...]

Sixty-five.

[So, more than three times Akechi's ""age""... even though he can guess full well this is a teen taking a jab at him. He literally asked for it, though, he won't fuss...]

The hair has aged me a long while, now. Not a sign of my age, but the color of my druid gift. I've had silver hair since I was... your age. [Twenty, really, but he'll pretend to align with Akechi there,]

[Akechi hasn't sweated age too much here, and how much younger he is than some people, but... That is a big jump. Then again, he's not sure he's about to give it up for Sherwood so easily. He needs something worthwhile in exchange, besides just a card.]

Oh, have you now? Am I right to assume that-- [He gestures, vaguely, to Sherwood's branch antlers] -- Those also have something to do with it?

Why, yes. These are my druidic gift. The leaves and flowers grow in silver, which changed the appearance of my hair. I split a seed from the World Tree and planted it within my own skull. These grew in, snuffing out my nature born, human blessing of magic in exchange for the ability to manipulate soul energy.

[Sherwood does sure love to share his accomplishments, even if it sounds entirely insane. Letting a plant grow directly into his skull is one thing, all the other magic it granted him is another,]

I've spent twice your lifetime developing various disciplines of this new magic.

[Now, Akechi has done a lot of risky and self-destructive things on his path towards vengeance. Some days, he still feels the sharp crackle in his mind that's left over from using Call of Chaos on himself. But planting a magic seed in his own skull? That's...]

[He says so carefully, hiding his own feelings. At least for a moment. Because as soon as Sherwood pulls out the age card, lording over Akechi, he narrows his eyes. Something hot and angry burns in him. It's not so hard to imagine Sherwood as one of the miserable older men fawning for Shido's attention, trying to impress Akechi by demeaning him. It makes his stomach turn.]

And yet you're here, just like the rest of us. Your magic couldn't save you.

I have. [Sherwood affirms, busying himself with yet another task. He's kind of a fidgety guy, always moving in some way or another, not quite able to stand nor sit still. He turns to his hearth and pull out a hanging kettle, finding two cups of tea and pouring each to about half way.

He then pours some of each cup back and forth between them in a little ritual. One he doesn't explain, thinking it just speaks for itself. He pushes one forward the Akechi delicately, it steaming with a warm scent of bergamot citrus oil.]

Now that is an interested assessment, lad. You see this place as damning us, rather than acting as salvation?

[He takes the tea, taking a moment to smell it and take in the warmth. He's suspicious, but he doesn't want to make that too obvious.]

That's a wonderful scent. What kind of tea is this?

[Of course, his rage is only tempered for a moment -- and only by a thin mask covering it. He sets the tea down.]

This place is a cage, as gilded as it is. Surely you're not satisfied to just let the resort rip you from your life and tell you what to do, are you? On principle, if nothing else?

[Sherwood will blow on his own tea before sipping it. Considering he mixed them all up together, it's a display of it not being poisoned to take the first drink of his own,]

I believe it is called Earl Grey, I found it similar to a Springtide mixture from home, [not fully the same, but similar enough to be a comfort choice,]

Contrary, I believe this is an intriguing new adventure to find myself on. I don't worry so much about the principle of it. Then again, I worked very hard to set up my people back home with a secure future. I do not worry much for their survival without my guidance. They have been taught to swim. If they sink, it is not from any lack of guidance, only their own willpower.
