My Self-Summary

First Druid and (now former) Chancellor of the Springtide Clan. My rank seems to be a joke upon my Jack-of-all-Trades nature. If you have a skill you're interested in, it is likely I have dabbled in it, if not mastered it. And if not, I can always learn. Don't let my age deceive you, I'm still a quick study. Interested in playing the game, but in no rush. I've not fallen through worlds before, I plan to enjoy my time before Myddvai calls me back.

Sherwood's Suite is located on the Ace & Jack level floor. He has no door, having removed it entirely. His room is always open to visitors, regardless of his being around or not. The space is mostly a large, single space with all his amenities. The only separated out room is his private bathroom, which he keeps locked.

Of note, he has a wood burning hearth with various, rudimentary cooking supplies. There are multiple, large desks with various scrolls, journals, and books strewn about. Bookshelves and storage cabinets line many of the walls. Painted artwork, tapestries, and drawings are also haphazardly about the space. He has a low, wide, and plush bed cot tucked in a far back corner. It had a curtain which can be pulled around to give some privacy, but he won't be found sleeping in it.

That is one of the abilities we Druids have. I can transform in an animal which best represents the shape of my soul. In my case, a mantis. Other druids have a variety of forms, depending on their personalities.

How are you used to it working?

[Yeah, Sherwood has clocked that Nero is Not Just Some Guy looking to cook and keep his head down. Though he's only got a bit of his soul tap into the other man, it's clear to Sherwood he has some real power in him. How much? He has no clue, but it is not normal guy levels, that's certain]

[ If they're actually good at transformation magic, and not Nero who sucks at it.

Nero's a middle aged-ish wizard, so he's... Fairly strong? even if he'd like to pretend he's Just A Guy. ]

My! What unbridled freedom. Do you practice such a discipline yourself?

[Sherwood is good at his transformation, but fussy about it. Anybody who turned into an insect among the druids and didn't have control over it would simply lose their mind forever. A terrible fate, one Sherwood isn't keen to see himself befall.]

[ Transformation is more the area of the Westerners and honestly Nero doesn't have much use for it in his day to day.

What would he even want to be? He barely knows who he is as a person. ]

[Yeah, Nero wouldn't make it as a druid. Good for him. It's not a pleasant thing to be.]

A shame, then you really could be a cat slinking through my threshold.

I do like cats! Cannot say they like me. The human inner fire that gave me a connection to animals was snuffed out when I became a Druid. [a wistful sigh, like this is just something fondly remembered about times gone by]

Such a shame, but power always comes with a price.

You weren't always a druid?

[Different. When humans try to be wizards that kind of thing usually doesn't go well. It's also impossible.

He leaves the soup to simmer.]

No, no, humans have a very passive magic and I was not satisfied with that. I developed the technique to attach oneself to the World Tree directly, the sacrifice being one's natural born Blessing of Fire. A small price, in my mind, given how many new and more active disciplines of magic opened up to me.

[He just looooves talking about magic, especially the kinds he developed. A proud man of many accomplishments... mostly bad, but undeniably impressive for him to have invented through study and testing.]

That was some... oh, more than forty years ago, now. That's quite a while, on a human time scale.

[That's a new one, but there's a lot of different worlds... Damn. What would that be like?]

Yes, all humans are born with an inner warmth. Think of it as a charm that makes us more appealing to animals and other breeds of people.

[Sherwood laughs lightly, saying with no shortage of confident ego,]

My personality was always charming enough I didn't need such a blessing. Rather redundant for a man such as myself. Now, I have many different abilities, largely stemming from a utilization of soul energy.

[ His expression immediately says "doubt", but if he was better at hiding his expressions then it would've stayed blank. ]

Huh. That's all new to me.

[ Sounds like the kind of stuff a mad scientist type would get up to. For better and worse. ]

My, how does magic function in your world? From those who have fallen into Myddvai from realms far removed, I've heard there is a great variety in how it can function. Some worlds lack for any magic at all, which I find most incredible.

Some people are born with magic, but not everybody. It's pretty rare. A lot of people think of... Magic users as suspicious and dangerous.

[ Sometimes they're outlawed from some cities all together. Though it's pretty easy to pretend to be a normal human. ]

I can see why! Magic is quite the dangerous, miraculous thing. When all have it, then there is much less inequity. Give it to only a chosen few and I'd suspect those few would abuse their powers over those without.

[said as a man with no ethics, who would and has done exactly that abuse of power]

You think that's something that'll always happen?

[Maybe.

Maybe it's fated that every world that has magic will always devolve into that, people abusing their power, making the rest of the world hate them. Maybe there's no world where those with and without magic can be at peace with each other, due to the inherent power imbalance.

He wishes it didn't always end up that way.]

It is happening even here, isn't it? Whoever run this place clearly have means well above what the rest of us can do.

[Sherwood looks to his left hand, towards his gloved ring finger. His Diamond Suit mark was there, being kept out of sight, but he had an idea of the control it could exert over him if there captors so wished it. Frustrating, but Sherwood is also curious about such power... he'll figure it out, one day.]

[Not that Nero really minds being put in the twos. The less people know him, the happier he is.]

Takes a lot of work to get just one person over to another world. Let alone... Everybody here.

You believe it is random? My place seems well considered. I'm something of a jack of all trades.

[and if Nero likes his low status, isn't that strange to be such a coincidence?]

I've not seen any others of Myddvai around. I'm sure I left my people able to stand upon their own feet, but I do still worry they weren't yet ready to walk without my guiding hand. Alas... nothing to be done. [he stirs the pot, likely full by now of all the necessary ingredients,]

There's only one other person from home around... That's probably for the best.

[He would lose it a little if he had to deal with Oz. Nero's too easily stressed around that guy. Murr is also... guy of all time who pokes and prods and enjoys drama a bit too much.

[For the purposes of meeting Bradley later on, Sherwood will not inquire further on that one. He is focused on hoisting the pot over to the hooks mounted above his flaming hearth, adjusting their stew until it is being properly heated. That will need to be left to simmer a while, but from the smell, it'll be good.]

There, perfect. [Sherwood straightens himself up and tugs his gloves into place, casually and bluntly asking,]

Were you still interested in a further exchange? [this man loves his vague implications! He hadn't forgotten that Nero offered his card for a place to cook, but maybe he'll play dumb to get out of it. Sherwood would allow it, he's not about to be pushy (he's only just gotten here... save that for later.)]

[He knows what he said, and he knows what he's asking. It's the same sort of vagueness that the noblemen use when they don't feel like being especially direct.

Being direct isn't something he's great at either.]

We've got... some time before it's finished so...

[Sherwood can pick up such subtle and unspoken cues well, since they're really his preference over too blunt and inelegant discussion. There's just less fun in that. He much prefers to tease such things out.

So, he moves in close to Nero, backing him in against the counter. While Nero isn't a short man, he's still four inches shorter than Sherwood and he'll use that to his advantage. A hand moves to one side, hooking onto the counter edge, with the other reaches to Nero's hip, thumbing at where the bone is most dramatic. Sherwood stands tall and close, if not quite flush,]

There are many ways to occupy our time until then. Does anything come to your mind?
